PUT IT IN MY FACE RIGHT FUCKING NOW.
you forgot Benedict Cumberbatch
While I think it’s fantastic that people are reading Moran’s ‘How to be a Woman’ and coming out with a stronger sense...
Alright, you stupid motherfuckers, listen up.
I know it’s easy to look at this cartoon and go OH WAIT REPUBLICANS ARE BAD. Have any of you actually read the bill? Go right ahead, it’s located here.
Now, I know that if you actually took this cartoon and the media at face value, you don’t have the brains to figure out how to read a pdf, so let me break it down for you.
Section 301: The federal government will not pay for your abortion.
Section 302: The federal government will not help you pay for a health care plan that includes abortion.
Section 303: The federal government will not give you a tax benefit on medical expenses (see: money) related to having an abortion.
Section 304: The federal government will not provide facilities or employees to perform your abortion.Section 309: Sections 301, 302, 303, and 304 do NOT apply if:
1. You were forcibly raped.
2. You are a minor and a victim of incest.
3. You would otherwise die if you do not have an abortion. This means, and read this next sentence, the federal government will continue to do what it is already doing (pay for your abortion, pay towards your health care for an abortion, provide tax benefits for your abortion, and provide facilities and employees for your abortion) if your situation meets the above criteria.
Section 309 DOES NOT IN ANY WAY define rape. It defines circumstances under which the federal government will CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOU.
In other words, the federal government (see: taxpayers) should not have to fund your abortion unless you were raped, a victim of incest, or would otherwise die.
Any questions?
A little late, but appreciated anyway.
Pretty sure I was saying this from day one.
Pretty sure if that’s the case, you were still wrong from day one. Congrats.
I don’t give a fuck how you feel about the government giving people money for abortions or whatever the hell the supposed justification for this kind of legislative fuckery is, but to put “forcible” and “rape” together in a sentence is ridiculous. Let me see if I can make this clear for you and for everyone:
RAPE IS FORCIBLE BY DEFINITION, SO THE ONLY REASON TO PUT THOSE WORDS TOGETHER IS TO WEAKEN THAT DEFINITION.
“Forcible rape” is the most redundant phrase to ever be created. It has no place in legislation. It’s shitty language, and for folks who complain about the government not being effective or efficient enough, it’s absurdly hypocritical to suddenly support redundancy in legislation when it comes to sexual assault (or, in other words, rape victims - folks you have no interest in protecting).
Duh. Let’s put on our fucking thinking caps, k? The legislation does attempt to redefine rape - just because it only affects rape victims who now won’t be able to afford the abortions they want/need now doesn’t mean it’s any less atrocious or that the GOP shouldn’t be called out for the blatant misogyny (not to mention hatred of other types of folks who are often targeted for sexual assault, i.e. non-binary folks) that this kind of disregard for sexual assault victims shows.
Oh yeah, that doesn’t even cover the completely asinine incest portion, which apparently requires someone to be under 18 in order to “really” be a victim of incest. Uh, it doesn’t work that way in that zany place I like to call reality.
So yeah, yay for consistency in being wrong, I guess. Hoo-fucking-ray.
RAPE IS FORCIBLE BY DEFINITION, SO THE ONLY REASON TO PUT THOSE WORDS TOGETHER IS TO WEAKEN THAT DEFINITION.
